From the Minors to Majors, GLSELA Students Learn from the Professionals at Cleveland-Area Sports Venues
Great Lakes Sports and Entertainment Law Academy Students had the opportunity to learn the interworking of professional baseball while attending games and taking behind-the-scenes ballpark tours with the Cleveland Indians (Major League Baseball) and Lake County Captains (Class A Affiliate). Students also heard from a pair of former Major League pitchers in Jensen Lewis (four-year MLB veteran, Fox Sports Ohio Cleveland Indians broadcaster) and Steve Karsay (13-year MLB veteran, pitching coach for the Lake County Captains).
GLSELA Students Produce Compilation Album to Benefit Legal Aid in Music Course
Great Lakes Sports and Entertainment Law Academy students experienced the unique opportunity to curate an authentic music album as part of the academy’s "Representing the Musical Artist" course. GLSELA students served as talent scouts, legal directors, art directors, and license drafters while compiling a CD that will be sold to benefit the Legal Aid Society.
Prominent NFL Agent Erik Burkhardt Speaks with GLSELA Students
Great Lakes Sports and Entertainment Law Academy students in the “Representing the Professional Athlete” course had the opportunity to hear the obstacles facing professional agents and get a behind-the-scenes look at the intricacies of the position from prominent NFL-agent Erik Burkhardt. Burkhardt is an agent with Select Sports Group, the 10th largest NFL agency according to Forbes. Burkhardt represents an extensive group of NFL players and coaches, the most well-known being Cleveland Browns quarterback and former Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel.
2015 GLSELA Preview: Field Experiences and Online Courses Highlight the 2015 Academy
The 2015 Great Lakes Sports and Entertainment Law Academy will mark the first time students from around the country can participate in experience hands-on, practical-lawyer training in both the sports and entertainment fields via distance learning courses. In addition to the ability to attend the academy in-person, hosted on the campus of Cleveland-Marshall College of Law May 18-June 6, students may choose to complete all academy courses online synchronously, through live video sessions or asynchronous, through recorded sessions.
Several GLSELA Participants Speak at Cleveland-Marshall ESLA Symposium on Current Topics In Sports and Entertainment Law
Several Great Lakes Sports and Entertainment Law Academy faculty and guest speakers participated in panels at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law’s Entertainment and Sports Law Association fifth annual symposium, Friday, April 10. The symposium covered a wide range of sports and entertainment topics over three panels, “Owning and Operating a Sports Venue,” “From Development to Production, How to Make a Film,” and “Protecting and Monetizing the Publicity Rights of Athletes and Entertainers.”
